The process begins by cleaning and preparing the used frames instead of sending them to landfill. With a little paint, thoughtful lettering, and mindful attention, each frame receives a new purpose. This DIY meditation sign becomes more than eco-friendly home décor: it is a visual invitation to breathe, slow down, and return to the present moment.

~Here’s how the upcycling process is created:

Step number 1. Collect old frames:

Choose unwanted picture frames from available op shops, unwanted frames from home, family or friends. Choose 2 or more frames in very close sizes or styles. Reusing them keeps useful materials out of landfill.

Step 2. Clean the frames:

Wipe away dust, dirt, and grease. Remove the glass, backing, and any loose or damaged parts.

Step 3. Prepare the surface:

Lightly sand the frames to smooth rough areas and help new paint stick. Repair cracks or weak corners if needed. Or keep the older character of the frames by just wiping them down with warm water by removing any built up dirt - dust.

Step 4. Adding a fresh start to the frames:

Feel free to Paint the frames in calming, natural colors such as white, beige, green, or soft blue. Allowing each coat to dry fully before adding another.

Step 5. Measure out the internal picture frames:

You will need 2x boards one for each picture frame for the meditation sign. Go ahead and measure the internal size of each frame and cut those boards with using either recycled card, plywood, or canvas for the front and back signs. Once cut and sanded apply Paint to the boards with black chalk, applying a second coat once the first coat has dried.

Step 6. Assemble the two frames together to create the sign:

Apply a hinge to the top of the first picture frame, then adding the other frame by attaching the hinge to the second frame. You now should have a upright self supporting meditation sign.

Step 7. Insert the boards into the frames:

Pictures mostly come with push down supporting on the backing of the frames, if there is no supports just add 2X small tex screws on each side into the backing of your new boards.

Step 8. Mindful Meditation Sign Writing:

Hand write clearly with chalk in any colour.

Step 9. Mindfulness Sign:

Hang the finished sign near a meditation space, bedroom, or quiet corner where it can encourage daily reflection mantra.
