Meet Our Prefect: Venerable Xiè'ēn (谢恩)

At the heart of Wǔshéndé Sì’s unique mission is our Prefect, Venerable Xiè'ēn, an accomplished Zen Master, compassionate peace monk, and dedicated medical physician.
Venerable Xiè'ēn brings a profound synthesis of classical Buddhist Dharma, ancient medical sutras, and modern clinical awareness to the temple’s sangha (community). Rather than viewing spirituality and physical health as separate paths, he treats them as an interconnected whole.A Legacy of Holistic Wisdom The Five Elements System: As the pioneer of Five Elements Medical Meditation and Mindfulness, Venerable Xiè'ēn teaches practitioners how to balance internal energies by aligning with seasonal shifts and universal patterns.  Wu Xing He Qi Dao: He serves as the principal of this foundational art, guiding students to unlock their internal potential and reconnect with their true nature.  Compassion in Action: His teachings emphasize that true enlightenment cannot remain abstract; it must express itself practically through daily choices, ecological sustainability, and the protection of all sentient beings.
"It's important to remember to let your actions enlighten another, not just what you say."— Venerable Xiè'ēn

Bridging East & West: The Science of Holistic Health

To help Western readers and healthcare practitioners integrate these ancient systems, Wǔshéndé Sì features a dedicated translation framework. Under Venerable Xiè'ēn’s dual guidance as a monk and medical physician, we translate the formative (structural) and functional aspects of Eastern energetic medicine into contemporary, evidence-based terminology: Physiological Systems (The Internal Body): We translate classical energetic concepts like Shen (Spirit) Qi (vital energy) and Jing (Essence) into the language of modern physiology. Our studies map these pathways to the nervous system, myofascial networks, circulatory flow, and neuro-endocrine pathways, demonstrating how mindfulness regulates the physical body and Psychological Well-being (The Mind): Traditional Chinese Medicine views specific organs as seats of emotion (e.g., the liver and anger, the kidneys and fear). We translate this ancient framework into modern psychosomatic medicine and neuro-psychology, focusing on emotional regulation, nervous system resilience, and stress reduction and into wider views of Societal Connection (The Community): True health does not exist in isolation. We examine how individual well-being influences collective social dynamics, applying systemic and behavioral health principles to foster collaborative, supportive, and compassionate communities and by extension Environmental Health (The Planet): The five-element framework posits that humans are a microcosm of nature. We translate this through the lens of modern environmental science and ecology, demonstrating how seasonal shifts, geographic settings, and sustainable living directly dictate human immune function and vitality.

Dedication of Merit

Dedication of Merit We close our daily practices by sending goodwill out into the wider world, echoing the ultimate aspiration of our community: May the merit and virtues accrued from this work adorn the Buddha's Pure Land, repaying the four kinds of kindness above and relieving the suffering of those in the paths below. May those who see and hear of this bring forth a heart of deep understanding, living the teachings in ultimate bliss.
